The Mentor

The Mentor

The Mentor found you when you were just another poor scavenger, and lent you the money to open a shop in the Lower Levels. Little else is known about him. He took a risk on you, and he expects it to pay off.

  • Opening day: the Mentor drops by, leaves some notes on your counter and gives you two rules. Keep both sides of the counter clear, so customers have room for what they want to sell. And don’t leave anything on the outside counter overnight, unless you want it stolen.
  • Market tips: on a later visit he passes on news: a mining expedition returns tomorrow, so Materials will flood the market and prices will dip for a while. He also arranges a daily newspaper delivery for you.
  • The deal: starting the following week he collects 200 Credits a week in loan repayments, and the Landlord comes every week for rent, 300 Credits to start.

His one piece of underlined advice: “Do not take any shark loan.” See The Landlord for what a loan shark offers.

Default on your rent and you are evicted. Abandoned by your customers, your contacts and even the Mentor, you go back to scavenging, and someone new rents the shop.
