Identification practice

Magnifying glass

Practice spotting counterfeits and appraising goods. Pick one item from the list, or all items at random: Whole items hands you one random example after another, built the way the demo builds them and drawn on the game’s own inspection panels; Single checks drills one part at a time; and Quiz asks ten of them and gives your score at the end, with the right answer for each. Confront Hemingway cigarettes, Food Stamps and Immunivax injectors on the counterfeit receipt, or accept them as genuine; estimate Plasma Cartridges, Bionic Hands and Ribwiches on the appraisal panel; and sort BloomBerries by their look. The item’s handbook or guide book from the game sits beside it, page by page.

Wiki page
Item You decide What decides it
Hemingway cigarettes Confront or accept Lettering, box color, security seal, logo; a box problem only on the story’s blank pack
Food Stamps Confront or accept Lettering, logo, the seal against the printed value, the value itself, the chip
Immunivax injectors Confront or accept Indicator, label, serial number and recalled batches, cracked body, body colors
Plasma Cartridges Estimate Plasma color, casing condition, manufacturer seal
Bionic Hands Estimate Material, condition, control interface, add-ons, set bonuses
Ribwiches Estimate Wrap, Davre logo, Ribwich sticker, production date, packing facility, deluxe edition, double meat
BloomBerries Pick the condition Normal, small, underripe, overripe or moldy

A confront is right when the item really has the problem you ticked, which is how the game judges it; accepting is right only for a genuine item. An estimate is right when the appraisal service would grade it Perfect: within 95–105% of the true value.

Counterfeits carry exactly the faults the game gives them. How often one comes up is the practice’s choice: half of the cigarettes and Food Stamps, and an even share of genuine, expired, unusable and counterfeit injectors. One cigarette in ten is one of the story’s three packs. Plasma Cartridges, Bionic Hands, Ribwiches and BloomBerries come with the demo’s own odds. The demo’s foreign-script cigarette lettering is blank, so that fake shows no lettering at all.
